On March 13, 2025, The Village Girl Foundation, in collaboration with Md. Kate Gyamfua, inaugurated an ultramodern polyclinic for the people of Akyem Takorowase in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region. This polyclinic, an upgrade of the existing health Centre, includes a fully furnished 60-bed ward, a modern medical laboratory, and advanced medical equipment and supplies.
The upgrade of the health centre to a polyclinic followed significant infrastructure improvements and enhanced medical facilities, reflecting a step forward in the community’s healthcare services. The facility was officially handed over to Dr. Winfred K. Ofosu, Regional Director of Ghana Health Service for the Eastern Region, who then transferred it to the Denkyembour District Health Directorate and the community’s traditional leadership.
Dr. Ofosu praised the contributions of both The Village Girl Foundation and Md Kate Gyamfua, and emphasized the need for health workers to maintain a culture of upkeep for the new facility. He also urged the local chiefs and residents to support the accommodation needs of health workers posted to the town and encouraged other philanthropic organizations to contribute additional resources to the facility.
Benedicta Fosu Mensah, CEO of the Village Girl Foundation, shared her personal connection to the project as a native of the community, which inspired her to collaborate with Kate Gyamfua on this initiative. She also emphasized the importance of a strong maintenance culture to preserve the polyclinic.
Kate Gyamfua, in her address, expressed deep gratitude to the people of Akyem Takorowase for their support, highlighting that as a native of the community, she felt a strong responsibility to give back. She appealed to the community to ensure the longevity of the facility through proper maintenance.
The Chief of Takorowase, Osabarima Owusu Nketia I, expressed gratitude on behalf of the community, calling on other successful individuals from the area to contribute to its development. He assured that the traditional leadership would play an active role in ensuring the facility’s upkeep.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Ernest Yaw Kumi, MP for Akwatia, and Seth Ofosu Birikorang, former District Chief Executive of Denkyembour District and reps from The Ghana Health Service.
